WORLD WHEAT SUPPLY
PROPOSAL BY THE UNITED STATES STORAGE DURING GOOD YEARS. FOR USE IN LEANER TIMES. WASHINGTON, July 14. The secretary for Agriculture, Mr Henry A. Wallace, announced today that the United States, during the international wheat conference which will open in London tomorrow, would propose an international over-normal granary plan covering all the major wheat-producing countries of the world. Mr Wallace explained that it would be an invitation to othei- countries to agree to co-operate with the United States in storing up wheat during good crop years for use during years of scarcity. He added that other nations had not been consulted in advance, but he hoped that the proposal would be received favourably since it was felt that the plan would be advantageous to all producing countries and eventually might have a stabilising influence on world wheat prices. .
