REPERTORY PRODUCER
MR FREDERIC McCALLUM. ■ NEW MANAGER OF MASTERTON THEATRES. A recent arrival in Masterton is Mr Frederic McCallum, who relieves Mr W. Maxwell, the well-known manager of two Masterton theatres. Mr Maxwell has left to take over management of the Regent Theatre in Palmerston North. Mr McCallum has been for the last twelve months managing the Regent Theatre, Wanganui, and was for two years prior to occupying that post managing the Regent Theatres in Auckland and Wellington respectively.
He is perhaps best known through New Zealand by his association with the legitimate theatre and the repertory movement, as he has played a wide range of roles professionally and was for four years producer and organiser of the Auckland Little Theatre, which during his regime enjoyed the distinction of being the largest repertory society in the Empire. He has produced some fifty plays and has played over 120 roles in professional and amateur organisations. Mr McCallum was on the staff of the British Drama League and was engaged as lecturer in production, acting, scene-treatment and make-up during the 1935 season. He is also widely known in radio circles, having played and produced for a number of New Zealand stations.
