BRIGHT BATTING
BRADMAN AGGRESSIVE STYLISH CENTURY BY BROWN. EASY WIN FOR AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, July 14. The match between Australia and Warwickshire was resumed today in cloudy weather. Bradman began aggressively, on an easy wicket, with magnificent boundary shots, late cuts and hooks. Then, as a result of a careless stroke, he gave an easy catch to short mid-on, off Mayer. He batted 23 hours and hit 14 fours in a seemingly chanceless innings before throwing his wicket away. A CHANCELESS INNINGS. Brown reached 100 runs in 220 minutes, then jumping out to hit, was clean bowled. His innings was also a chanceless one, and included many stylish glances. He hit seven 4’s.
Barnes opened with a glorious four to the covers, and continued to bat brightly but was unable to get past the keen fieldsmen. He was cut to a catch in the covers, having mistimed a hit. Fingleton, still feeling the effects of the blow he received on the head, was never himself. He was simultaneously bowled and hit his wicket. Chipperfield and Waite played soundly, and carried the score along at a good rate until Chipperfield was caught at the wicket. White and O’Reilly were both out when attempting big hits. The innings was declared after 335 minutes batting. A STRUGGLE FOR RUNS. Warwickshire commenced their second innings at 3.15 p.m. and were immediately struggling to avoid an innings defeat. Three wickets were down for 16 runs within twenty minutes, and with 5 wickets down for 56 Warwickshire’s hopes of averting an innings defeat had vanished. Ord and Cranmer alone showed any class. Ord played stylishly', while Cranmer indulged in some big hitting, including 6 at the expense of Ward. The tail offered feeble resistance to the Australian bowling and the side was out in 130 minutes.
Australian won by an innings and 93 runs. The scores are as follow: — AUSTRALIA First Innings.
