FIRE IN GARAGE
BUS SLIGHTLY DAMAGED. A fire which broke out early this morning in the garage of Mr A. J. Snelgrove slightly damaged one of his large buses and destroyed a quantity of tools and portion of the work bench. The garage is situated at the back of Long’s butcher’s shop in Lincoln Road. The Masterton Fire Brigade received the call at about 5.15 a.m., the fire having been noticed by Mr T. Thompson, mail contractor. The brigade was promptly on the scene and within ten minutes had the flames suppressed. Although standing only a few feet from the outbreak, the bus fortunately escaped serious damage, the paint, on the side being scorched and two or three windows broken. Mi’ Snelgrove estimates that tools to the value of about £6O were destroyed. There were three buses in the garage and had the one standing alongside the fire caught alight a serious fire might have developed. There was no insurance on the tools. Two lorries were also housed in the garage.
