KAHUTARA DRAMATIC CIRCLE. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Saturday evening in the Kahutara' hall the Dramatic Circle of the Kahutara Women’s Institute gave a concert before a large and appreciative audience. As a result of this effort a sum of about £ll will be added to the Institute funds. Some 18 items were presented including dances, plays, songs and piano solos. The whole programme was arranged by Mrs T. Duffy, the Circle producer, whose efforts in making the concert a success were outstanding. The performers were Mesdames Playle, Harvey, Chisholm, Duffy and Misses E. Chisholm, J. Fen-' wick, G. Welsh, N. Corlet, O. Harvey, E. Hall, M. Harvey, L. Hood, J. Hood, and Miss D. Chisholm who acted as pianist. , At the conclusion of the concert Mrs L. McKenna, president of the Institute, presented Mrs Duffy with a dainty posy and each of the other performers with an artistic shoulder spray as a token of. the Institute’s appreciation of their effort. The ladies of the Institute supplied supper to those present, and a pleasant evening concluded with a dance. LICENSING CASES. At the monthly sitting of the S.M. Court over which Mr H. P: Lawry, S.M., presided, Bryce Campbell and Agnes Campbell were charged with having been on the premises of the Tauherenikau Hotel, on May 22, during prohibited hours. Defendants were fined 10s and costs 12s. Ellen Sim, licensee of the Royal Hotel, Featherston, was charged with having opened her premises for the unlawful sale of liquor on June 18, and further, that on the same night she did unlawfully expose liquor for sale. Defendant pleaded guilty on the charge of having exposed liquor for sale, and was fined £2 and costs 10s. The charge of having unlawfully opened the premises was withdrawn. John Sim, son of the licensee, was charged that whilst acting as barman, he unlawfully exposed liquor for sale in the Royal Hotel on June--18. Defendant was fined £2 and costs 10s. Alexander Lamb and Leslie James Castles were charged with being unlawfully on the premises of the Royal Hotel and were fined 10s and costs 12s. CARD TOURNAMENT.
Tlie fire brigade euchre tournament on Tuesday night was well attended. The results were as follow: —Ladies: Mrs Hoskings, 1; Miss Nix, 2. Men: Mr S. Crawford,’ 1; Mrs Rewai, 2. A ROUGH DAY. The roughest day in the Lower Valley this winter was experienced yesterday, there being a destructive gale accompanied by heavy rain which continued throughout the day. HOTEL LEASE SOLD. Mr Fred Brough, liqencee of the Lake Ferry Hotel, has sold his lease, and the purchaser will take over the premises at an early date. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mrs A. S. Kilsby and her daughter have returned from a holiday in Wellington. Mr and Mrs Percy Sweetapple, Napier, are the guests of Mr and Mrs N. C. C. Shepherd. Miss Nancy Rendall, Kahutara, is spending a holiday in Napier.
