STATEMENT BY COLONIAL SECRETARY CONSULTATION WITH HIGH COMMISSIONER. QUESTION OF STRENGTHENING POLICE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 11. The situation in Palestine was the subject of a statement in the House of Commons by Mr Malcolm MacDonald, Colonial Secretary, today. “My latest message from the High Commissioner,” said the Minister, “reports further incidents at Haifa and Jerusalem. In Jaffa and Telaviv no further incidents are reported, but tension persists and the curfew is in force in all four cities and the boundary area. H.M.S. Repulse has relieved H.M.S. Emerald at Haifa. The Ist Battalion of the Irish Guards and the Ist Battalion of the Essex Regiment are expected to reach Palestine from Egypt today and tomorrow, respectively. The 11th Hussars, which is an armoured car regiment, will follow at an early date. I am in consultation with the High Commissioner on the question of increasing the strength of the police forces.” MORE VIOLENCE. FORCE LANDED FROM REPULSE. (Recd This Day, 10.22 a.m.) RUGBY, July 12. In the House of Commons, Mr MacDonald said he regretted to state that there were yesterday further serious acts of violence in a number of centres in Palestine. The Repulse is remaining at Haifa and 20 officers and 254 men have been landed to assist in maintaining order.
