STOCK MARKET
SALE OF DAIRY COWS Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd. report as follows: —We held a sale of dairy cows on behalf of Mr R. T. Reid, Clareville, yesterday, when we offered his high producing herd to a good attendance. The cows were an attractive lot, all being in first-class condition, and the butterfat records which were given out as each cow came into the ring, were well above the average. Bidding was spirited throughout, and this sale was a.sure proof that it paid to herd test. Two of the top price cows made £l7. The average for the top 10 cows was £l5 14s, for the top 20 cows £l4 14s, and the herd, including one or two doubtful cows, averaged £l2 16s. The 3-year heifers made up to £ll and averaged £8 Ils 6d. The brood sows made from £5 2s 6d to £5 15s. In addition to the above we also offered a very select little herd on behalf of Mr J. F. Saddler. These cows were in good order, of excellent type, but unfortunately Mr Saddler has never tested, and this rather reflected on the bidding. His cows made up to £l4, and averaged £ll 12s 6d. Twoyear heifers on behalf of the same vendor averaged just over £B.
