EMPIRE DEVELOPMENT
PERMANENT COUNCIL APPOINTED I CO-ORDINATION OF EFFORT. APPROACH TO DOMINIONS URGED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 12.50 p.m.) LONDON, July 11. The Empire Development Conference has resumed. It was decided to appoint a council on a permanent basis, with the object of co-ordinating public opinion and effort on the need for Empire development. It was also decided to urge the Government to invite Dominion Governments to consider the possibility of early preparations for settlement and to indicate its readiness to grant credit facilities for approved schemes. An amendment by Scottish Nationalists that migration be delayed until the needs of Scotland had been attended to, particularly as regarded depopulated areas, was defeated.
