TABLE TENNIS
A DELIGHTFUL EXHIBITION. HUNGARIANS AT WANGANUI. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, July 11. A delightful exhibition of table tennis was witnessed by a large crowd tonight when the touring Hungarian players, Victor Barna and Nazio Beliak, had little difficulty in' beating the Wanganui players. The games were arranged by the Wanganui Table Tennis Club, and the visitors were welcomed by the mayor, Mr W. J. Rogers. In the first game R. Parker, Wanganui, was no match for Beliak, but Boniface, Wellington, and Barna provoked gasps of admiration and excitement from the spectators. Boniface played even better shots against Beliak, and though beaten both times played well enough in patches to show the visitors at their best. Boniface secured one „ game against Beliak, but was outclassed by Barna. The Hungarians’ control of the ball and footwork were brilliant. R. Stewart, Wanganui, did not extend Barna, who played amazing backhand drives that gave Stewart no chance. In the doubles match Barna and Beliak made short work of Parker and Stewart. The Hungarians weaved about the end of the table like ballet
dancers and flashed the ball over the net like a white bullet. Results were:— Beliak beat Parker, 21-10, 21-12; Barna beat Boniface, 21-10, 21-5; Beliak beat Boniface, 18-21, 21-13, 21-11. Barna beat Stewart, 21-5, 21-6. Barna and Beliak beat Parker and Stewart, 21-14, 21-13.
