The Piha Surf Life-Saving Club, Piha, Auckland, has decided to purchase a new surf-boat at a cost of £l3O to replace the boat bought from the Bronte Club, Sydney, two years and a half ago. The Castlecliff Surf Section is negotiating for the purchase of the latter craft. The Piha Club’s new boat will be of the same dimensions as the present boat, 22ft 6in in length, with a sft 3in beam, but it will be of different design in that the bow and stern will be blunter, giving the crew more room. Buoyancy tanks will be fitted fore and aft, while a standard surf-belt and about 300yds of line are to be placed in a forward position. Queensland cedar will be used throughout, making the boat much lighter than the one at present in use. The new boat will be built in Sydney.
