LONDON QUOTATIONS The London buttef market closed quieter after some activity in the middle of the week, says a cabled report supplied by the Primary Products Marketing Department to the Dairy Board. Friday’s closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, are as follows: — New Zealand: Salted, 121 s, ex 122 s (1235; a year ago, 110 s to Ills); unsalted, 122 s to 123 s (124 s to 1255); a year ago, 110 s). Australian: Salted, 119 s, ex 120 s (121 s unsalted, 120 s to 121 s, ex 122 s (122 s to 1235). Danish: 101 s to 102, f.0.b.; 122 s to 123 s spot (103 s 124 s to 1255). Dutch: Unsalted, 110 s to 113 s (113 s to 114 s). Lithuanian: Salted and unsalted, 112 s to 114 s. Retail prices are unchanged, New Zealand and Danish selling at Is 3d a lb. Deliveries of New Zealand butter last week were 1208 tons. The quantity in store, including 761 tons, ex Empire Star and Port Gisborne, was 6375 tons, as against 5377 tons a year ago. Deliveries of Australian butter were 1274 tons, the quantity remaining in store being 4910 tons, as against 6625 tons a year ago. The Imperial Economic Committee’s estimate of the stocks of all butters in store is 1,109,826 boxes, as against 949,813 boxes a year ago. The basic rates fixed under the New Zealand guaranteed price scheme, subject to quality differentials, are 123 s 8d for butter and 70s 4Jd for cheese a cwt., f.0.b., New Zealand currency. The equivalent landed price for butter in London is 112 s, and for cheese 675. The guaranteed price for butter is equal to 13.25 d a lb., f.0.b., and the current London quotation is - equal to 14.43 d. New Zealand ports. The equivalent price for cheese is about 7.75 d a lb, compared with the guaranteed price of 7.54 d. The cheese market is steady, Friday’s closing quotations, with those of a week ago in parentheses, being as follows: — New Zealand: White and coloured, 68s 6d (68s to 68s 6d; a year ago, white 70s 6d to 71s, coloured 68s 6d to 695). Australian: White and coloured, 65s to 67s (65s to 675). Canadian: White and coloured, 78s to 80s (78s to 80s); c.i.f., 695. (68s 6d to 695). English factory 65s to 66s (65s 6d). Deliveries of New Zealand cheese last week were 18,110 crates. The quantity in store was 85,442 crates (including 24,380 crates ex Port Gisborne, Empire Star and Wairangi), as against 52,003 crates a year ago. Deliveries of Canadian cheese were 3510 boxes, the quantity in store being 68,621 boxes, as against 67,591 boxes a year ago.
