CLASHING SHOW DATES.

JN confirming October 27, 28, and 29 as the dates for the Royal Show at Hamilton this year, the Royal Agricultural Society has denied the Wairarapa P. and A. Society any consideration or redress of the difficulty in which it is placed by the clashing of these dates with those of its own impending Show, October 26 and 27. The Wairarapa organisation obviously is being subjected to an injustice which there should have been no difficulty in removing had action to that end been taken in good time.

The district show associations and the Royal Agricultural Society are parts of one great organisation and the right and normal thing in directing and controlling that organisation surely is to pay fair regard to the interests of all its constituent members. In the present instance this plainly has not been done. So far, at least, as a number of breeders are concerned, the Royal Show and the Wairarapa Show are thrown into competition—a position that should not have been allowed to arise.

The difficulty is due initially to the Waikato A. and P. Association, to which the Royal Show has been allotted this year, having recently moved back its show dates from November to October. A complete remedy might have been found by making the allocation of the Royal Show to the Waikato Association conditional on that body moving its dates sufficiently this year not to clash with the Wairarapa P. and A. Society. This has not been done and the P. and A. Society is left in a position of disadvantage—on account of breeders who customarily exhibit at its Show desiring also to enter their stock at the Royal. Show — against which it has every right to protest.
