TWIN CALVES
SEVEN WEEKS BETWEEN DATES OF BIRTHS An occurrence which is most unusual in New Zealand—although a similar case was reported some time ago in England—is reported from the farm of Mr J. A. Callaghan, of Coringa, Upper Fendalton, states the “Press.” A little more than seven weeks ago a Jersey cross cow in his herd gave birth to a bull calf. Seven weeks later she repeated the performance. The whole family is “doing well.” Experienced dairymen state that they have never previously heard of such a happening. The cow was at her second calving. The two calves are identical in markings and colouring, and the second calf bore no difference in weight or size from the first when dropped. They were by a Shorthorn bull. Mr Callaghan is rearing the calves, more out of curiosity than anything else, and they are progressing quite well in spite of their unorthodox arrival.
