WAIRARAPA GAMES SATURDAY’S RESULTS ,-The Wairarapa Hockey Association’s fixtures were continued on Saturday. V Conditions were good except that some ■- of the grounds were fairly heavy. Kiwi 1, had no difficulty in beating Greytown, st after leading 3/1 in the first spell, •s Messrs Harding and Playle were the L referees. h Dalefield proved too good for Wesley it when they met at Lansdowne. Car(t terton had the bye. In the junior division both Wesley A and College A continued on in their ■. winning way. Wesley B, however, 4 were rather lucky to get off with a draw against Dalefield. y The following are the results: — SENIOR, k Kiwi 7, Grey town 1. I, Dalefield 4, Wesley 2. '' JUNIOR. WOMEN’S DIVISION. 9 !, In the women’s division most interest was centred in the Grey town and s Excelsior match, and quite a few local . supporters went to Greytown to see the match. The play was of a very even character for most of the time, but Excelsior wore down their opponents in the second spell to run out comfortable winners. The referees were Messrs Stubbings and Moynihan. On the Lansdowne grounds Kiwi easily held off College, and at Carterton, the home team again drew with ’ Kia Ora. ' The following are the results:— ; SENIOR. Excelsior 5, Greytown 2. I Kiwi 7, College' 3. Kia Ora 1, Carterton 1. ' JUNIOR. Excelsior 3, College B 0. College C 4, Kia Ora 3. College A v College D postponed. The College B versus College C match postponed from last Saturday week was played during the week, and re- : suited in a win for College B by 6 goals to 1. INDIAN TEAM’S NARROW WIN OVER N.Z. UNIVERSITIES (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, July 9. The Prince of Manavadar’s Indian hockey team gained a narrow victory over N.Z. Universities by two goals to one. There was an attendance of upward of 7000. The teams were evenly matched, Universities putting up an excellent defence in the face of the Indians’ best attacks. The first score was by Universities, Hubbard, left-wing, following in when Alldred had drawn the Indian goalie. Sultan Khan, inside-right, scored both the Indians’ goals, the second being a clever shot which the goalie just failed to stop. In the second half the Indians were attacking all the time and Universities had little chance to get away, but the defence, particularly by Hercus in goal and Hogben at full-back, kept the score down. ENGLISH LADIES’ TEAM DRAW IN WELLINGTON (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The unbeaten English women’s hockey team played a drawn game with Wellington at the Basin Reserve on Saturday, when there were no goals scored. England had the territorial advantage all the time and Wellington had only one or two chances of scoring, but the local defence was so sound that they kept the formidable tourists at bay.
