WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

SOLWAY-MANAIA MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) A. meeting of the Solway-Manaia Women’s Institute was held on Thursday last. Mrs Munn presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Nicholls, McMichael, Sutherland, McAllister, Misses Allan and Wise.

Mrs Munn chose “Kawhia” as the subject for her Golden Thread talk. Piano solos by Mrs Groombridge and songs by Mrs McGovern were followed by community singing.

Competition results were: Knitted pullover, Mrs Knudson 1, Miss Russell 2. Open class: Mrs Sharman 1 and 2. Flowers: Miss Russell and Mrs Woollett equal.

The September hostesses will be Mesdames Webber and Nicol, Miss Vollheim and Miss Wise. The roll call will be “Famous Women.” The competitions will be: Cooking, Canadian date cake; sewing, print frock; flower, best bulb.
