WOMEN’S DIVISION

MEETING IN MASTERTON. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on Wednesday last in Chilton Buildings. Mrs Ken Groves presided, and the following members of the committee were present: Mesdames Alex. Donald, Engstrom, Gawith, Stuart, Pike, McLean, Rutherford, Coe, lorns, Burling, and C. C. Jackson. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Aplin and A. B. Cottle. The resignation of Mrs Barlow, who will leave for Australia shortly, was received with regret. It was resolved to forward to Mrs Barrer a letter of sympathy in the loss of her brother. A very successful jumble sale was held during the morning under the supervision of Mesdames Groves and Burling. It was decided that jumble sales be continued during the winter months. It was resolved that the Young Farmers’ Club be granted 'the use of the Rest Room, and that supper be provided for the Negro debaters, who will be visiting Masterton on July 21. Mrs C. C. Jackson spoke op the proper use of cereals, and proposed that a shop day be held to demonstrate the same. Mrs Groves stated that Miss Jessie McKenzie, owing to pressure of business, had relinguished the office of secretary. Mrs Groves spoke in very complimentary terms of Miss McKenzie’s services to the Division. These remarks were endorsed by Mrs Gawith and others present. It was announced that Mrs Rue had been appointed secretary to the Division. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Burling, McLean and lorns.
