CONTEST WINNERS
USED CAR COMPETITION. JUDGE’S DECISION ANNOUNCED. Fifty-one entries were received for the Used Car Competition promoted in the ‘“Times-Age” by Messrs Gordon Hughan Ltd., Carterton, and Fagan Motors Ltd., Masterton, Ford dealers for the Wairarapa. Entries came from Martinborough and Featherston in the south, Mt. Bruce in the - north and Whakataki on the east. The editor of the “Times-Age” who judged the competition has placed the prize-winners as follow: —Mr John E. Willett, Fitzherbert Street, Featherston, Ist: Mr J. E. Hulme, 138 Short .Street, Masterton, 2nd, Mr Willett’s prize-winning entry was: “As is the car, so is the Plan—a real Square Deal.” Mr Hulme’s entry was: “Complete Satisfaction is guaranteed by the exclusive R. & G. Protection Plan.”
Many of the entries were of a similarly high standard, but lacked some necessary element. Confusion existed in some cases as to whether “R. & G.” counted as one word or as three. Eventually either alternative was allowed according to the construction given to it by entrants. Orders for the petrol awarded as prizes will be posted shortly to the successful competitors who will receive full details as to receipt of the actual petrol. The competition involved the composition of a 12-word sentence describing the “R. & G.” Used Car Plan, one word to be taken from every one of 12 advertisements which recently appeared in the “Times-Age.” «
