AGAINST TERRORISM

BRITAIN TAKING ACTION IN PALESTINE ’ (>' ■ TWO BRITISH BATTALIONS SENT \ FROM EGYPT. INCREASE IN LAWLESSNESS. (Recd This Day, 12.55 p.m.) LONDON, July 7. Government concern over terrorism in Palestine, where 33 persons have been killed, of whom 25 were Arabs, and nearly 150 injured, in the past two days, is shown in the hurried despatch of two British battalions from Egypt and the diversion of the cruiser Emerald by radio from her homeward course to Haifa, where the Repulse will relieve her tomorrow. “The Times” says the present wave of outrages stands out only in relief from many months of lawlessness. Each week from ten to twelve Jews and Arabs have been murdered and fifty to eighty wounded. Most of the outrages have been committed against isolated Jewish communities and a majority until now have been committed by Arab terrorists, by no means representative of the whole Arab race. Now the Jews seem to be arming. Some of the wilder youths are organising counter-terrorism gangs. PRECAUTIONARY ARRESTS. ARAB AND JEWISH CONSTABLES REPLACED. (Recd This Day. 1.15 p.m.) LONDON, July 7. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Jerusalem correspondent says precautionary arrests which are being made on a large scale, include Dr Waschitz, local Zionist Revisionist leader. The police searched the offices of the Jewish Labour Federation. British police have largely replaced Arab and Jewish constables, who can no longer be relied upon.
