THE THIRD TEST
WICKET VERY SOFT. RAIN FOR FIFTEEN HOURS. (Recd This Day, 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, July 7. It has been raining almost continuously for fifteen hours and the Old Trafford ground and wicket are very soft. The players of both teams have been unable to practise. McCormick is suffering from a cough and mild tonsilitis. THIRD TEST IN 1934. BIG SCORING GAME. (Notes by “The Bowler.”) The third. Test, between the Australian and English cricketers, commences today at Old Trafford. On the 1934 tour, the match was drawn. England compiled the large score of 627 runs for 9 wickets (declared), in its first innings (Leyland 153, Hendron 132, and Ames 72), being the chief contributors. , Australia also batted well by putting on 491 runs in its first effort (McCabe 137, Woodful 73, and Brown 72}, being the highest scorers. England then went in again to make 123 for no wickets and declared. Australia had one wicket down in their second innings for 66 runs when time was called. The fourth Test will commence at Leeds on Friday, July 22.
