ASYLUM FOR REFUGEES

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE MEETS MILLIONS OF HOMELESS PEOPLE BRITAIN SEEKS CO-OPERATION EVIAN, July G. Delegates from 32 countries began an examination of the problem of dealing with political refugees. Lord Winterton said Britain could always afford a haven, but the scope was now limited owing to unemployment. She was ready to collaborate with other countries with reference to sending refugees to the colonies. Lord Winterton warned Germany that refugees must be allowed to take out some capital if it was expected that other countries would receive them. Myren Taylor (United States) referred to the millions without a country being forced upon countries ill-equipped to receive them. The increasing tension this occasioned was not conducive to world peace.
