NEXT ROYAL SHOW

WAIRARAPA’S PROTEST. HAMILTON DATES CONFIRMED. Arrangements for the next Royal Show, which is to be held at Hamilton on October 27, 28 and 29, were discussed at a council meeting of the Royal Agricultural Society of New New Zealand in Wellington yesterday. The president, Mr L. J. Wild, said that there were already signs of great interest and activity throughout the Waikato. Of special significance was the way in which all other A. and P. associations in the district were rallying to the assistance of the central body.

Mr Wild referred to a protest by the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Association against the Royal Show being held on the dates on which it had for years held its own show in the Wairarapa. “What I rather take exception to is the tone of the Wairarapa association’s circular letter to A. and P. associations,” said Mr Wild. “It is calculated to put this council in a wrong position, and is an improper action for any association affiliated to the society.” After discussion the council confirmed the dates for the Royal Show.

The Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association protested against being allocated November 8 and 9 for its show. It desired that people’s day should be held on November 10, when the shops would close. The dates, November 8 and 9, were confirmed, as also were the dates November 11 and 12 in the case of the Egmont A. and P. Association.

The schedule for the show was discussed. It was decided that there should be no classes for calves or dry cows, but that four classes of Dorset Horn sheep should be included.

The council decided that for the Royal Show inter-island freight should be paid as usual, and the executive was given power to pay rail freight up to within 200 miles of the show. Southland was granted the Royal Show for 1939.
