THE ROYAL SHOW

IN CENTENNIAL YEAR MAY BE HELD AT TRENTHAM (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. If practicable, the 1940 Royal Show is to be held at Trentham, or somewhere else near Wellington, during the progress of the Centennial Exhibition. The Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand, at its annual meeting in Wellington yesterday, set up a committee to investigate this question and also that of finding a permanent ground for an annual Royal Show in or near Wellington. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the council, held before the annual meeting. The president, Mr L. J. Wild, said that in February he wrote to the Director-General of Agriculture, Mr A. H. Cockayne, asking whether the department would consider transferring to the society 104 acres of. land adjacent to the Wallaceville veterinary laboratory and the Trentham racecourse. In his letter he said that leading members of the society had, notwithstanding the present policy of a peripatetic show, always kept in view the centralisation of the Royal Society headquarters and of the Royal Show in, or near, Wellington. Those who had inspected the site mentioned were of opinion that it had much to commend it" as : a : suitable place for development at a Royal Show ground and centre for stud stock sales'to be held in connection with the show.
