LOCAL TEAM WINS GOLF GAME. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Featherston and Pirinoa clubs met in a match on the local links at the weekend when the home team won both the foursome and single matches. The weather was dull and cold but the greens were heavy after the rain of the previous night. Some of the games were keenly contested, and in several cases were decided on the last green. Afternoon tea was supplied by the ladies. The results were as follow (Pirinoa players mentioned first in each case):—Singles: B. McMaster lost to W. Rowles; D. Tikao I lost to W. Crawford; G. Munro lost to K. Allen; D. Jones lost to G. O’Neale; T. Hume and W. Jeffery all square; M. McLeod beat H. McCarty; J. Riwai beat L. Benton; R. McDougall beat J. Davis; M. Herangi beat H. Lawson; K. Waiwera beat I. Donald; J. Carter beat D. Carlyon; M. Waiwera beat H. Lovegrove; W. Charters beat S. Edwards. Pirinoa, 8| games; Featherston, 3J games. Fourball: McMaster and Tikao beat Rowle's and Crawford; Munro and Jones beat Allen and O’Neale; Hume and McLeod lost to Jeffery and McCarty; Riwai and McDougall beat Benton and Davis; Herangi and Waiwera beat Lawson and Donald; Carter and Waiwera halved with Carlyon and Benton. Pirinoa, 41 games; Featherston, IJ. The local club played a Stableford competition on Saturday, Mrs Tikao winning the ladies’ match and K. Waiwera the men’s.

The first round of the senior and junior club championships will commence on Saturday. The following is the draw for the first round of the senior championship: B. McMaster v. T. Hume; J. Riwai v. D. Jones; G. Munro v. R. McDougall; M. McLeod v. D. Tikao. The, draw for the junior championship is: M. Herangi v. M. Waiwera; W. Charters v. K. Waiwera; S. Hall v. F. Lovegrove; S. Thomas v. J. Carter. The return inter-club match against Featherston will be played at Featherston on July 31. DEATH OF MR N. PIRIPI. The many friends of Mr Niko Piripi Will regret to learn of his death which occurred at Tologa Bay on Monday, at the age of 68 years, after a short illness. Mr Piripi, who was a member of a well-known family of this district, had resided here prior to taking up his residence at Tologa Bay some twenty years ago. He was a man of kindly disposition and keenly interested in the well being of his race. His wife predeceased him eighteen months ago. He left no children but he had several adopted children. Mr Wha Piripi, Kohunui, is a brother, and Mesdames Riwai, Saqnders and Enoka are nieces. The interment will take place at Tologa Bay. PERSONAL. Miss Edgelow, Auckland, is the guest of Miss N. McDougall. Miss M. Taylor, who has been staying with Mrs R. Piripi, has returned to Waipukurau. Miss Molly Tawhiti, Tauranga, was the guest of Mrs Carter for a few days prior to her return home. Mr and Mrs Carter, who have been at Otaki for the funeral of the former’s sister, have returned home. Mr and Mrs R. Neal, who have been residents of this district for a number of years, have removed to Wellington. Mr George Elliot, a popular resident, has left for Wellington. “Dad,” who was a keen sportsman, will be greatly missed. Mr and Mrs T. Tangey are also taking up their residence in Wellington. Mr Tangey has been in business in this district for a long period. BASKETBALL AND FOOTBALL. The basketball and football matches between the local and Kahutara schools resulted in a double win for the local school. The return matches are to be played at Kahutara.
