MEDAL GOLF COMPETITTION. (“Times-Age” Special.) A medal competition played by the Golf Club on Saturday was won by W. J. Candy with a score of 87—24—63. Other scores were: S. Mill 86—22—64; B. E. MINIATURE RIFLES. re^urn match between the Carterton and Greytown miniature rifle clubs was fired on the Carterton range on Saturday evening and ended in a win for Greytown. Picturesque fancy costumes lent an air of additional colour to the annual ball of the Carterton R.S.A. at the King’s Theatre last night. The floor was packed with dancers in both plain and fancy dress, and approximately £5O admission money was received. The hall was pretilly decorated with flags and greenery. With a background of native ferns and foliage the stage ■ was particularly attractive, as was the lounge, where comfortable furnishings provided dancers with an opportunity for rests. Ably assisting the branch executive was an energetic ladies’ committee consisting of Mesdames Murray, G. Johnston, Callender, Chennels, King, Taplin, Harding, Manley, Rabbits, Pin- ; fold, Merrick, Hedley, Beere, Stubbs, Hopkins, Wakelyn, J. Johnston, Benge, G. Smith, Thompson. Messrs A. T. Murray (chairman) and D. Gibb Johnston (secretary) were supported by other’ executive members, Messrs C. C. Callender, C. A. Chennell, C. Manley, F. Taplin, M. King, G. Rabbits, L. J. Harding and H. Rathbone.
Prizes to the winners of the various classes in the fancy costume section were presented by Mr H. J. Brass, president of the Wairarapa R.S.A. The prize winners were as follow: —Best Dressed Lady, Miss Urwin (Spanish Lady); Best Dressed Man. Mr C. Hesp (Musketeer); Most Original Lady, Miss Chapmanfe(“R and G” Used Cars); Most Original Man, Mr Lawrence (“Absentminded Professor); Best Pair, Mr and Mrs R. Forbes (Red Indians). Among the visitors were Mr and Mrs H. J. Brass, president Wairarapa R.S.A., Mr.A. Prentice (secretary of the Wairarapa R.S.A.) and Mrs Prentice, and the Mayor and Mayoress of Carterton (Mr and Mrs D. L. Taverner). Messrs F. Taplin, R. Wakelyn and M. King shared the duties of M.’sC. while Udy’s orchestra supplied the music. The Carterton Pipe Band also played a slow waltz.
