HOLIDAY DEATHS IN U.S.A. ONLY TWO PERSONS KILLED BY FIREWORKS MOTOR ACCIDENTS ACCOUNT FOR 158 (Recd This Day, 2.2 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 4. Violent deaths totalled over 500, as America’s three-day holiday neared its end, with the toll mounting steadily toward last year’s record of 496. Fireworks were responsible for only two deaths, both in the State of Virginia. In motor accidents there were 158 deaths, 73 persons were drowned. The remainder of the deaths were due to shooting, falls, etc. The number of those injured by fireworks is unusually low. One of those injured is the youthful cinema actress, Jane Withers, whose hand was burned when a string of fire-crackeds flared up.
