GENEROUS BEQUESTS
THE LATE MR A. P. WHATMAN’S WILL “PANAMA” TO BE CONVALESCENT HOME. SEVERAL INSTITUTIONS BENEFIT. Under the will of the late Mr A. P. Whatman, who died on June 29, 1938, the Public Trustee is appointed executor and trustee and Messrs G. W. Sellar and Herbert Bannister advisory trustees. In addition to numerous private legacies, provision is made under the will for substantial public and charitable gifts, details being as follow: — A certain specified area of approximately 3j. acres of the late Mr Whatman’s property at “Panama," Ngaumutawa Road, Masterton, to the Salvation Army to be held on certain trusts. The sum of £5OO to be held by the Public Trustee on trust for the Old Russell Churchyard. The sum of £B,OOO to be held by the Public Trustee on trust for the Masterton Returned Soldiers’ Club. The sum of £5,000 to be held by the Public Trustee on trust for the New Zealand.lnstitute for the Blind. The late Mr Whatman’s wellknown residence at “Panama,” Masterton, together with a specified area of land and certain furniture, etc., to be transferred to the Wairarapa Hospital Board, to be used by the board as a convalescent or rest home for persons approved by it, provision also being made in the will for the erection of a further charitable institution or institutions to be held on similar trusts. The residue of the estate is to be held on trust for the Wairarapa Hospital Board.
