ROAD CYCLING
FORTY MILE RACE. SPLENDID WIN FOR WOOLLETT. Despite the fact that he had a limit of 15 minutes to overhaul in the 40mile race, Keith Woollett, a promising young cycling star, won well on Saturday in the good time of 1 hour 45 minutes from his co-markers, R. Copp and B. Harman. Since the palmy days of cycling in Wairarapa' when Tom Oakley was in action there have been several riders to show promise, including T. McCord, G. Tinkler, the Pye brothers, E. Sayer and L. Clark. However, by his convincing wins this season, K. Woollett has shown probably more promise than any of the above mentioned. Given another season at his present rate of progress he will develop into one of the best in the Wellington province.
J. Duckett and C. Dykes had the misfortune to suffer a nasty spill on the return journey at Clareville, the latter being extremely lucky not to suffer serious injury. He somersaulted over Duckett who fell first and narrowly missed a car travelling in the opposite direction. The results are as follow: —K. Woollett (scr.), 1; R. Copp (scr.), 2; B. Harman (scr.), 3. Fastest time: K. Woollett, 1 hour 45 min.; R. Copp, 1 hour 45min. l-ssecs.; B. Harman, 1 hour 45min. 2-ssecs.
