New National Club.
There was a very large attendance, including representatives from women’s branches in the Pahiatua electorate, at f the opening of the new Dannevirke National Club in the De Luxe Theatre by Lady Ransom. Evidencing the great amount of work that has been put into the club in a short space of time, the surroundings were attractive and comfortable, giving a pleasantly social atmosphere to the gathering. Proposed Island Service. A direct steamer service between Auckland, Norfolk Island and Noumea, New Caledonia, is at present under consideration by interests which are stated to be located in Auckland and Sydney. Negotiations are in train for obtaining a suitable ship and it is likely that the Hinemoa, which has previously been used in the Norfolk Island trade and was for many years a familiar figure in coastal shipping as the Government lighthouse steamer, will be the vessel chosen.
