MOTOR ACCIDENT

SIX PEOPLE INJURED. CAR STRIKES POWER POLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Six persons were injured in a motor accident at Silverstream at 2.45 a.m. yesterday. As the result of damage caused to power lines through the car involved hitting a power pole, electric current in the district was off for an hour. Those hurt were:—Miss Gladys Beale, Upper Hutt, injuries to both legs. Miss Maureen Mcßandall, Queen Street, Upper Hutt, shock and abrasions. Miss Gwen Randall, Queen Street, Upper Hutt, broken collarbone and head injuries. Leslie Mcßandall, Main Road, Trentham, broken rib and leg injuries. Maurice O’Kane, Main Road, Upper Hutt, cut hand and cut nose. Ernest Frederick Baillie, Main Road, Trentham, driver of the car, slight leg injuries. Mr Bailie was driving toward Upper Hutt when’his car skidded on the wet bitumen, and struck the power pole at the entrance to St Patrick’? College, broadside-one. The car was badly damaged. The three young women were taken to the Wellington Public Hospital by the Free Ambulance. The men were able to go home after attention by Dr G. Lemchen.
