CAR SET ON FIRE

FOLLOWING ON QUARREL. SHARP WARNING GIVEN BY MAGISTRATE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 1. After a quarrel, Leonard Keith Aldridge set alight another man’s car. The offence occurred on June 5. This morning Aldridge was charged in the Magistrate’s Court with committing mischief to the extent of £lO and with being drunk in a public pjice. On the first charge he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within two years if called upon, subject to repayment of £lO at the rate of £3 10s a month. He was also ordered to take out a prohibition order. On the charge of drunkenness he was convicted and discharged. Aldridge, said Sub-Inspector Packer, had gone to Tuam Street on account ot some trouble. He said that he had gone “to, have it out” with another man, but he had been ordered out of the kitchen of a house. He had called out, “I will get even with you yet,” and a few minutes afterward someone knocked at the door of the house to say a car near the house was in flames. Two boys, continued the sub-inspector, had seen accused running away, and Aldridge later admitted setting the car alight. The trouble in the first place was due to Aldridge’s drinking habits. “If you make any default or come back again you will get no option,” said Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., to accused.
