NAVAL PROMOTIONS
OFFICERS WHO HAVE SERVED IN NEW ZEALAND
DEFENCE MINISTER OFFERS CONGRATULATIONS
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day.
The names of three naval officers well known in New Zealand, Commander B. C. B. Brooke, Lieut.-Commander F. B. Lloyd and Commander J. B. E. Hall, appear in the half-yearly list of naval promotions issued by the Admiralty on Thursday. Details of the promotions received by these officers were announced last evening by the Minister of Defence, the Hon F. Jones. It was gratifying to learn, said Mr Jones, that Commander Brooke, formerly Naval Officer in charge at Auckland, and Director of Recruiting, had been promoted captain. This officer had given good service while in New Zealand, where he served from August, 1933, to June, 1936. Captain Brooke was 43 years of age and was advanced to commander in December, 1931. He was therefore receiving his next step in rank after a term of service as commander that was rather below the average.
Lieut.-Commander Lloyd, the navigating officer of H.M.S. Achilles, had been promoted commander. He was 37 years of age and was advanced to lieutcommander eight years ago. Commander Lloyd had served in the Achilles since March, 1936. The third officer was Commander Hall, who commanded the Imperial escort vessel Wellington for two years and a half from 1935 to 1937. He received his step to the rank of captain after eight years’ service as commander.
