Women and Defence.
Men are not the only section of thecommunity to take an interest in defence. At the meeting of the Territorial Association of Otago, held recently, two members reported that on two occasions meetings of employees of largeindustrial concerns which had been addressed on the question had been attended by women. At one about 100’ women had been present. “Let’s hopethey will use their influence with their boy friends,” said a member. "Plenty of Bottles.” Possible danger to aircraft lay in the markings at the golf course at the New’ Plymouth aerodrome, stated a letter recently recieved from Union Airways by the aero club. Flags marking the holes and the tee markers, the latter consisting of insulators or bottles, were undesirable, and flat ground-level markers were preferable. “We had no finance for that, but plenty of bottles,” said a member. It was decided to follow the recommendations where thought necessary.

Rainfall at Te Wharau. Mr R. Gray reports that 5.06 points of rain were recorded at Te Wharau during June. For the six months ended June, 34.57 points were recorded, as compared with 20.65 points for the corresponding period of last year. The'Guaranteed Price. Guaranteed prices for the current season’s purchases of butter recommended by the members of the special committee which reported to the Government last year were disclosed by the Minister of Education, the Hon P. Fraser, during the Address-in-Reply debate in the House of Representatives yesterday. Three recommendations were submitted to the Government. Mr Fraser said that five members of the committee had recommended a guaranteed price for butter of 13.16 d, three members had recommended 13.57 d, and two members had recommended 13.81 d. season was 13.25 d, but this had now The price fixed at the beginning of the been increased to 13.66 d. The latter price, with one exception, was higher than that recommended by any section of the committee.
