LONELY ISLANDS

NEW DEMAND IN BRITAIN. PEOPLE SEEKING REFUGE FROM AIR RAIDS. Lonely islands —the lonelier the better—are in great demand in England. They are wanted as refuges from airraids, and estate agents cannot find enough to go round. “We have a few on our books, but they will soon be disposed of,” said an official in one of the largest agent’s offices in London recently. “There are quite a number of attractive islands off the west coast of Scotland and the south-west of Ireland, but many of them have already been sold. We only wish we could get hold of more cf them.” c The prices range from £lOOO to many thousands for the larger properties. “In these days of aeroplanes, cars and motor cruisers, the island has definitely come into its own,” said another prominent estate agent. “The air-raid fear is undoubtedly a big incentive.”
