“LIKE AN ESSAY”
HON. R. SEMPLE’S ADDRESS. APPRECIATIVE REFERENCES BY COLLEGE BOARD. “I have never held any particular brief for the Minister of Public Works, the Hon R. Semple, and from what I have heard and read of him I have never- held him in any great respect,” observed Mr A. Donald at last night’s meeting of the Wairarapa College Board of Governors. “But,” he added, “when Mr Semple addressed the boys in the workshops on the occasion of his recent visit to the college I was most agreeably surprised. You would have thought you were listening to an essay by Dr R. Smillie instead of to a man generally termed ‘Bob Semple.’ The lesson driven home that day must remain with the boys.” Mr W. R. Nicol endorsed Mr Donald’s remarks, adding: “It made me think there must be some good in all bad things” (Laughter). The chairman, Mr L. J. Taylor: “Even a worm will turn if it is trod on.” It was decided to write to the Minister thanking him for his visit to the college and expressing appreciation of his address to the pupils.
