ANCIENT ORGAN

NEARLY FIVE HUNDRED YEARS OLD. The Cathedral of Sens has an organ which was played for the first time 498 years ago. Sens is among the oldest Gothic churches, and its architect, Guillaume de Sens, reproduced many of its characteristics in the Cathedral of Canterbury of which he was also the builder. During the passing centuries the organ has undergone many transformations. It Consists of 32 sets of keys, set in three keyboards, 12 pedals, and 1,932 pipes. Recent repairs have completely restored the organ to its full strength and during Easter it celebrated it four hundred and ninety-eighth anniversary by filling the ancient cathedral with its swelling notes.
