SUCCESSFUL TOURNEY
RETURNED SOLDIERS’ GOLF FIXTURE. RECORD ENTRIES YESTERDAY. Record entries .were received for. the returned soldiers’ annual golf tournament, held yesterday at the Riverside Club's links and the fixture proved highly successful and enjoyable. The links were in good order and some fine cards were returned. The tourney was capably organised and controlled and is now a popular annual event. During the day, Mr F. Cunningham referred sympathetically to the death of Mr A. P. Whatman, ■ the players standing in silence as a mark of respect.
A. J. Shaw was originally credited with a win in the Stableford competition, with G. Elliot runner-up, but a recount later showed the position to be reversed. There was a keen contest for the R.S.A. Cup, H. J. Brass and L. Wylie and J. C. Feast and H. Carson ■eventually finishing equal for first place. The novelty driving competition went to J. C. Feast. A medal competition was won by W. Maroney, with W. H. Barton runner-up. .The trophies were presented by Mr H. J. Brass, president of the Wairarapa R.S.A.
