GIFT TO HEADMASTER. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the Carterton district High School on Wednesday the staff and pupils gathered to officially bid farewell to Mr D. A. McPherson, headmaster, who will leave shortly in order to take up a position in the Auckland district. Mr D. Ewing, first assistant, on behalf of the staff and pupils, wished Mr and Mrs McPherson happiness in their new sphere. He asked Mr McPherson to accept an engraved silver watch. Ken White, a senior pupil, spoke on behalf of the scholars. DEATH OF MRS J. ANDERSON. Yesterday the death occurred of a well-known resident in the person of Mrs Johanna Anderson, Seddon Street, Carterton. Mrs Anderson, who died suddenly, is survived by a grown up family including Messrs Carl, Alex Walter (Parkvale) and Oscar (Carterton). MINIATURE RIFLES. RETURNED SOLDIERS’ BALL. The annual plain,' fancy and masquerade ball of the Carterton R.S.A. will be held next Monday in the King’s Theatre. After many weeks of preparation the very capable R.S.A. committee has all arrangements on hand for a successful ball. Since its establishment some years ago this R.S.A. social event has proved one of the outstanding attractions of the year in Carterton and the 1938 effort bids fair to eclipse all others. SITTING OF S.M. COURT. At the monthly sitting of the S.M. Court, presided over by Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., A. C. Collie was fined £2 and costs for having exceeded the speed limit in the Carterton borough. J. Phelps and D. Alexander were fined 10s and costs for having ridden bicycles at night without lights. S. L. Patton, for having driven a car at a speed in excess of the limit was fined £5 and costs. Ronald George Hoare was charged by the police with having driven a motor cycle in a negligent manner. Defendant pleaded guilty and was fined £1 and 10s costs. On a further charge of not carrying a warrant of fitness." Hcrare was fined 10s and costs.
