HARRIER ACTIVITIES

MASTERTON CLUB. “HARES AND HOUNDS” RUN. The Masterton Harrier Club will hold a run from the Park pavilion on Saturday afternoon. The run will take the form of “hares and hounds” and the trail will be laid by the club captain and the deputy captain at 2 p.m. The run will begin at 2.30 p.m. It is to be hoped, after the club’s race at Wanganui last week, that members, with such a great chance of a victory in the Benson Trophy, will renew their efforts towards consistent training. With the return contest only four or five weeks .away, and a splendid opportunity available of winning back the trophy after five years trying in vain, members must realise that it is now only a matter of solid individual training to make up those 18 points. KIATERE CLUB ALBERT COX CUP. On Saturday the Kiatere Harrier Club will hold its five miles club championship for the Albert Cox Cup. This handsome trophy was donated by the late Albert Cox on the formation of the club in 1933. The rules of competition are that it has to be won three times before being won outright. The previous winners of this championship ape: 1933, S. L. Rutherford; 1934-35, A. Burns, 1936; W. Burgess, 1937; W. McDonald. The last mentioned runner as holder will have a hard task to retain his title as W. Burns, Alex McDonald, W. Burgess and R. Greeks are all showing good form, and anyone of them is capable of winning. A trophy to be won on sealed handicap will be run in conjunction with the championship. The course will be over two laps each of 2J miles commencing and finishing at the southern entrance to the Solway showgrounds. Competitors ’ are requested to be ready to start at 2.30 p.m. sharp.
