Detective-Sergeant W. Kane, of Masterton, has resumed duty after a period of sick leave.

Mr and Mrs J. Ford (nee Miss Muriel Barlow), of Masterton, left last week for Sydney, where they intend to reside.

Mr A. H. Gibson, of Head Office, has been appointed temporarily to the position of Registrar of the Supreme Court and Clerk of the Magistrate’s Court at Masterton, as the result of the retirement of Mr A. H. Cutler.

The death occurred early yesterday morning at her residence, 47 Apuka Street, Wellington, after a brief illness, of Mrs Amy Isaac, wife of Mr Edmund C. Isaac, formerly inspector of technical training schools of New Zealand. She was 78 years of age. The death occurred suddenly, an Oamaru Press Association • message states, of Mr M. K. McCulloch, first assistant since 1906 at the Waitaki Boys’ High School. He was well known in rowing, Rugby, swimming and golf circles as an active participant, and later as an administrator. He is survived by his wife and three daughters. Mr J. A. Spurdie, Wanganui, has been advised that he has been appointed traffic and depot superintendent of New Plymouth tramways. Mr Spurdie replaces Mr V. George, who has retired because of ill-health. He has been employed by the Wanganui tramways for 19 years. Mr George Paroa. Kai Iwi. one of the leaders of the Ngaruru tribe and one of the Wainui-A-Rua sub-tribe, has died at Kai Iwa pa. Mr Paroa was aged about 60. He represented his tribe at the hui held at Wairoa to mark the opening of the Sir James Carroll Memorial House. He also took part in the opening of the new meeting house nt Kai Iwa pa by King Koroki in 1936. Mr Paroa was well known in his younger days as a cyclist and a footballer.
