EFFICIENT & COURTEOUS

MR A. H. CUTLER RETIRING TODAY. TRIBUTES BY LEGAL PROFESSION Mr A. H. Cutler, Registrar of the Supreme Court and Clerk of the Magistrate’s Court at Masterton for the past eight years, retires today from the Justice Department. Yesterday afternoon at the Courthouse Mr Cutler was farewelled by a very large and representative gathering of Wairarapa legal practitioners. Expressive tributes were paid to his efficiency and his unfailing courtesy and he was the recipient of two handsome presentations.

Tn addition to members of the legal profession, there were also present, Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., Senior-Sergeant G. A. Doggett and Court officials. Dr, M. Trimble said the legal practitioners regretted very much that Mr Cutler was retiring from the Justice Department. They had assembled, he added, to bid him farewell and to express the high esteem in which they held him. Mr Cutler had been a very worthy successor to a fine line of Clerks at Masterton. Since the Supreme Court had been established in Masterton it was of the utmost importance to the profession that the office should be in capable hands. When Mr Cutler first came to Masterton it was thought that he would have a difficult task to follow the efficient officers who had preceded him, but he soon showed that he was in the true line of succession. (Applause). Mr Cutler had been of the greatest assistance to the profession. due mainly to his very fine knowledge of procedure. He had at all times placed that knowledge and experience at the disposal of the profession with the utmost courtesy and willingness. In presenting Mr Cutler with a handsome oak chiming clock and gold watch, Dr. Trimble said he hoped that it would serve as a reminder to him of the very pleasant relationship that had always existed between members of the legal profession in the Wairarapa and himself. Mr S. R. Gawith paid a tribute to the assistance so freely given to each and every member of the profession by Mr Cutler, who had filled his office with distinction and to the satisfaction of the Justice Department. The large gathering was evidence of the respect and esteem felt towards Mr Cutler.-

Mr Cutler briefly replied, expressing sincere thanks for the presentations and the expressions of goodwill.
