COLLEGE BALL
FIRST ANNUAL FIXTURE. PRESENTATION OF DEBUTANTES Gaily decorated with coloured lights and streamers, the Wairarapa College Assembly Hall was well filled with dancers last night, when the College Parents’ Association held its first annual ball. The outstanding success of the gathering was largely the result of the enthusiastic efforts of the committee under the secretaryship of Mr A. J. Towns.
Mr G. C. L. Dickel was a capable M.C., and Mackay’s Novelty Syncopators kept thing going with a swing. During the evening several debutantes were presented by Mrs F. C. Daniell, wife of the president of the. association, to Mesdames G. G. Hancox, wife of the principal of the College, and the Mayoress, Mrs T. Jordan. Mrs Hancox wore black lace and taffeta and Mrs Jordan was in figured satin. The debutantes were as follow: — Miss Elsie Hancox, Palmerston North, who wore white lace over satin, with diamante trimming, and carried a pink posy; Miss Pauline Winter, Palmerston North, who wore white net and lace and carried a pink posy; Miss May Baskeville, who wore pink mousseline over satin and carried a pink and silver posy; Miss Joan Snelgrove, who was in white satin, with a posy of violets; Miss Olga Gorringe, who wore white net hand-stencilled in silver over satin, white Angora cape and posy of violets; Miss Dorothy Dunne, who was wearing ivory georgette over taffeta with taffeta frilled sleeves and trimmings and carried a posy of violets; and Miss Valerie Keith, who wore white brocaded crepe, hei’ posy being of pink tones. Each debutante was presented with a dainty souvenir programme, decorated by Miss M. F. Fraser, the art mistress, and members of the art department. The following was the ball committee: —Mesdames G.
