GREASY WOOL EXPORTS
LARGE DECLINE IN AUSTRALIA Exports of greasy wool from Australia for the 11 months ended May 31 amounted to 2,261,174 bales, valued at £39,144,656, compared with 2,439,198 bales, valued at £53,947,848, for the corresponding period of last year. Greasy wool exports to Empire countries have been greater in volume this year than last, total exports to the Empire being 965,805 bales, compared with 904,065 bales for the same period last year. , Of the Continental buyers, France, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland and Sweden have increased the volume of their purchases; but despite the operation of a trade agreement there has been a ’ sharp slump in purchases by Belgium. Italian and Japanese purchases also have decreased. The total exports of scoured wool up to May 31 were 235,646 bales, valued at £5,315,433, compared with 287,807 bales, valued at £6,823,260, in the corresponding period last year.
