The ladies of the picnic party had been gathering flowers, leaving father to start getting tea ready. When they returned the kettle was already boiling. "My word,” mother said, pleasantly surprised, '‘you have been quick boiling the kettle. “How did you do it?” "Oh. easy," father replied airily. “I just happened to let the pound of butter fall on the fire."
