SUDDEN DEATH

IN HASTINGS CHURCH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HASTINGS, June 26. A prominent resident of Hastings, Mr H. R. French, suddenly collapsed during the singing of the first hymn in the Methodist Church, Hastings, tonight. He was carried into the vestry, where it was found that he had died. Mr French, who was born at Auckland about 70 years ago, was county clerk at Warkworth for some years and edited a local newspaper there. He was a member of the Hastings Chamber of .Commerce and of the Hastings Retailers’ Association. Last year he was made vice-president of the Methodist Conference of New Zealand, the highest honour in the Methodist Church possible for a layman.
