TARIFFS & TRADE

DAIRY CONFERENCE REMITS > DEMANDS BY COMPANIES. COTTAGES FOR FARM WORKERS ADVOCATED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, June 24. Without discussion, the National Dairy Conference todaty adopted a Kaitaia remit drawing the attention of the Government to the serious resentment of the British public against the recent increase of tariffs against British goods. To prevent this antagonism jeopardising New Zealand’s primary exports, it was urged that immediate steps be taken to create a better feeling among consumers of New Zealand exports by giving .better trading facilities for British industries. A Morrinsville remit requesting the Government to repay to dairy companies any surplus in the Dairy Industry Account at the end of July was carried. The conference also supported the Morrinsville Dairy Company in its request that the Government refund to butter manufacturing companies in proportion to their total output all moneys paid into the Internal Marketing Department, and that any difference in values between the local and export parity for the current season be adjusted. The principle of orderly marketing at present in force on British markets was affirmed. The conference supported a Morrinsville remit expressing concern over the farm labour position and urging the Government to complete a scheme for the provision of cottages lor farm employees at cheap rentals.
