HITLER’S AUTOGRAPH

BOUGHT FOR A PENNY. A book containing the signature of Adolf Hitler was recently bought for a penny at a London bookstall. It is a dilapidated edition of “The Renaissance,” by Count de Gobineau, the French novelist and philosopher who originated the “Aryan” theory of race now adopted by the Nazis. It is a mystery how the book found its way out of the possession of its famous owner to the undignified junk barrow from which it was rescued by a book collector, Mr R. de Grete, of Maida Vale, London. “The signature at first conveyed nothing to me, except that the book had previously been owned by a German," Mr de Grete said. “Later, I was told by an expert that the writing is identical with Adolph Hitler’s signature. “I have written to Hitler offering to return the book, as it may have some sentimental value. If Herr Hitler does not want it I shall keep it myself.”
