MR NASH IN NELSON
PROSPECTS OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT. « (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NELSON, This Day. The Minister of Finance (the Hon W. Nash) was accorded a civic reception this morning. There was a very large and representative attendance. The Mayor (Mr Page) thanked the Government for its interest in the development of Nelson’s industries and resources. Mr Nash expressed the hope that Onekaka would become one of New Zealand’s valuable assets of the future. The tobacco industry, he said, was only in its infancy. His knowledge of quality, based on the opinions of manufacturers in England, showed that Nelson could produce a quality of leaf which would compare favourably with that of any other country. With good prospects for greater development, the Nelson district had a definite productive value for foodstuffs, and it was the desire of the Government to give every encouragement to those who were producing food for the people of the Dominion and other parts of the British Commonwealth. The Minister later laid the foundation stone of the new Government Life Insurance Office building.
