HITLER’S OWN COOK

PRECAUTIONS DURING VISIT TO ITALY. INFORMATION ABOUT POISONING PLOT. On the eve of Herr Hitler’s departure for Rome, the German secret police received what they considered to be reliable information of a plot to poison the Fuehrer at a State banquet at the royal palace. In view of this it was announced that Herr Hitler’s own cook would be sent to Rome. The cook took with him all the food for the Fuehrer’s dinner and all the plates and cutlery he would require. The cook, Herr Kannenberg, has prepared Hitler’s food since 1923. He has found by experience just what Hitler likes to eat for every possible occasion. He rarely asks Hitler what he wants, but invariably knows just what to serve up. When Hitler gives a banquet he hustles round his assistants who cook the meals 'of many courses for the guests; but he himself prepares the vegetarian dishes which Hitler eats.
