Foiled by floods in attacking Hankow from the north, the Japanese, reinforced from the Lung-Hai area, are pouring men into the YangtseKiang valley, for a new thrust from the eastwards. Meanwhile they are attempting to break the cross-river booms, the chief of which is at Kiukian, under the guns of Chinese forts. , , Sixty Chinese divisions, comprising 700.000 men, are reorganising the defences at Hankow in a triple ring, of which the third circuit is manned by crack troops. .
