Although damage as a result of the recent earthquake is negligible a number of shops in Napier had goods which were stacked in the windows tumbled into confused heaps. Particularly was this noticeable in book stalls and grocers’ shop windows. In Tennyson street the movement was sufficient to cause a disruption in the rain water system, and the stormwater, instead of pouring in the culverts as would normally be the case, began to trickle .down in a steady stream on the interior and exterior of the win- .... dow glass, causing the occupiers' of the premises to hurriedly remove the perishable goods from the display windows. In the Hastings street , shopping; ' area the water began seeping throughthe pavement.
